Co-Founder
Tom Backhouse
Entrepreneur, Geologist, Dad, Husband & now full-time Adventurer-In-Chief at Black Rock.
Tom is the previous CEO & Founder of Terrafirma, a UK leader in ground, climate & mining risk assessment. Tom exited in 2021 and left it all behind to double down on blending his passion for business and the outdoors, whilst spending more time with his two beautiful little un's.
Hiking, scrambling, wild swimming, wild camping & exploring ancient monuments get Tom out of bed.

Dog owner, family man, and outdoor enthusiast with a background in Outdoor and Leisure Industries.
For me, the great outdoors has always been my anchor that brings me stability and fuels the fire in my belly.
We built with the philosophy that everyone should be able to engage in adventurous outdoor activities that connect us to wild places, educate us, and inspire a passion for nature. This foundation that we uphold paves the way for future generations to share the same value for the great outdoors.
